Lego MOC: Aerospace

Guardian

Below are my aircraft and spacecraft designs that are not intended to be large-scale spaceships. Either way, they are intended to be minifigure-scale compatible and swooshable. Many are inspired by or heavily based on an existing design but are not intended to be replicas.

AF-1 Drone
Admittedly a rip-off of the X-9 Ghost as seen in Macross Plus (1995). Features landing gears.

AH-72 Attack Helicopter
Coaxial rotor attack helicopter. Features functional rotors and landing gears (not shown).

Heavy Interceptor
A rip-off of the B-2 but in the form of a refrigerated freighter utilizing modular design.

YF-40 Fighter
Inspired by the fighters seen in the Macross universe with their super packs.

YF-50 Variable Fighter
This is a variable fighter heavily based on the SVMS-01 Union Flag by mechanical designer Fukuchi Hitoshi featured in Mobile Suit Gundam 00 (2007). It is not intended to replicate the Flag in every detail, mainly following its general form and relatively simple transformation.

There is some inspiration taken from Macross. As such, it is a three-mode variable fighter even though I did not initially intend a GERWALK mode, but it doesn’t look bad so why not?!

It seats one minifigure pilot. Shields can be attached to both arms and a rifle can be attached to either/both shields. Only one is attached to the right shield in the pictures shown below of the Battroid and GERWALK modes. In Fighter mode, the rifle is underneath the cockpit along the centerline.

The model does have landing gears although I could not find an effective way to lock the front landing gear, opting for what is clearly a clumsy way for now.

Guardian Star Fighter
This is my re-make of the famous Lego 6932 “Star Defender 200” that was first released in 1987.

Utilizing modular design, it can be fitted with different modules depending on the mission profile. The engines at the rear can be detached easily enough (not shown). The front cannons can also be changed for a low-caliber unit with extra sensors.

The wing can be detached with various pods available including energy weapons, sensor array, or even missile launchers. In short, the Guardian can act as a long-range interceptor, long-range recon, AWACS & EW, or even as a medium bomber. It seats two minifigures: one pilot and one co-pilot/weapons/comms specialist, depending on the mission.

The one weakness of the design is that the four retractable landing gears are attached to the front cannons and engines, so only one front cannon or engine can be detached at a time if parked in an environment with gravity.

Macross-Style Fighters
These are small-scale fighters that cannot transform and they do not even have landing gears. The cockpit can open, it can fit one minifigure and the thrust-vectoring nozzles can move. The first in white is the Greif (“griffin”), inspired by the VF-1 Valkyrie. The main difference is that it does not feature swept wings. The second in blue is the Hayabusa (“falcon”) based on the YF-21 and VF-22 Sturmvogel II.

The Jagerfalke (“hunter falcon”) in black is a derivation of the Hayabusa. Although initially based on the Hayabusa and looks similar, the build differs more than it looks.
