Lego MOC: Mobile Suit Gundam

Freedom Gundam

Below is my design of the ZGMF-X10A Freedom as seen in Gundam SEED (2002). I intended it to be minifigure playable so it does seat one minifigure pilot. In order to remain swooshable and keeping in mind economy, it is not to scale. Its height is at approximately 70% of minifigure scale. I have used the anime and figures (which vary) as references.

As usual, the design constraints of aesthetics, functionality and economy conflict. The wings can move but not as much as they should. The beam cannons can deploy but I had to use a ball and socket joint to facilitate movement. The railguns at the hip can deploy but the barrel (front) section cannot unfold, thereby extending the barrel. The knee and elbow joints are double-jointed.

The cockpit can open. However, due to limited space, interior details are minimal. There are tiles representing screens and controls but there are no joysticks and no separate seat unit. Although the chest is not meant to open, I designed it that way so that it can facilitate access.

Overall, I am satisfied with the design so the frame can be used as a platform for future designs.

Based on the above frame, below is my design of the ZGMF-X09A Justice as seen in Gundam SEED (2002).

Minor changes have been made to the body but the frame is the same. The RQM51 Beam Boomerangs can detach from the shoulder but they are not replicated that faithfully.

The Fatum-00 unit, due to the slopes, is definitely not that faithful to the original design. Nonetheless, the unit can detach and the articulation for the wings are sufficient.
