The design based on the Klingon bat’leth is obviously a joke. The newer design is an attempt to improve on the older (bottom) design from years ago, but it is difficult to improve on what is a stupid design in the first place. A more realistic take would be to take the approach of a powered blade but I want to avoid that and stay true to the lightsaber.
