Star Trek Vessels

Federation Macross-class U.S.S. Enterprise-M

Latest Update: 11.Dec.2025

Below are my starship designs based on the Star Trek universe.

Klingon Battleship
I wanted a design that is clearly recognizable as Klingon as well as a plausible successor to the Negh’Var as seen in DS9 (1993). As such, I based it on the Negh’Var and took the trendy approach of using block-like forms and sharp edges. This helps emphasize its heaviness and, on balance, works surprisingly well. The overall length is 1040m.

Federation Macross-class Enterprise-M
As the name indicates, this design takes its inspiration from the the city ships as seen in the anime Macross 7 (1994) and Macross Frontier (2008) as well as Doug Drexler’s design notes regarding the Enterprise-J as briefly seen in Enterprise (2001), that “the inside of the ship would abandon the traditional concepts of up and down”.

The saucer section, at approximately 5000m in diameter, can fit a mini-city on the dorsal and ventral side. I did not fill the entire space with tall buildings as suburban and open spaces are intended; after all, a 5000m-diameter saucer section is huge for a starship but it’s not that big for a so-called city. The thicker rings are living and functional spaces such as internal transportation as well as providing structural integrity. The thin rings are phaser arrays. The engineering section also have buildings on its internal surfaces.

The saucer section also has 8 large hangars and 8 starships docked/embedded in the hull (four dorsal and four ventral).

The general form of the ship also takes inspiration from the Enterprise-D and Enterprise-E. The nacelles take a more anime-like approach based on the Macross ships.

The overall length is 8030m and given the scale, the hull panelling did not show up well initially. I have added more hull panelling and other details in the new renders below.

Romulan Shianev-class Warbird
Nothing beats the D’deridex-class warbird. It is, in my opinion, one of the best spaceship designs. The Shianev (“spear”) is intended to be a successor to the D’deridex without resorting to the trendy approach of utilizing sharp and jagged edges. Just about every form a warbird can take has been done anyway but I definitely wanted to avoid a design that just looks like a futuristic heavy bomber that one may find in a RTS game. Yes, I am referring to the designs seen in Picard (2020).

Admittedly, my design is hardly original. It is basically a Romulan Concorde with some inspiration from the F-16XL. Nevertheless, I think I have managed some degree of Romulan graceful intimidation in the design.

Romulan Surhuelh-class ISTAR Warbird
The Surhuelh (“discovery”) is primarily intended for Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR). It is designed for speed and stealth, to get to where it needs quickly and quietly, and then remain hidden as it monitors the area of interest and relays information to friendly units. The Romulans learned their lesson from the Dominion War when the Dominion had the Argolis Array. The Surhuelh is in essence a smaller, mobile version of that. And with a cloaking device.

It is equipped with multiple sensor arrays, more than three times of other vessels, with emphasis on long-range capabilities including two arrays on the dorsal fin structures and one on the ventral fin structure. It nonetheless packs a punch and can handle itself in an assault, so it can participate in an assault alone or as part of a task force.
